Flights from Germany, Austria and Switzerland to Arusha

DAY 2

Karibu Tanzania – Welcome to Tanzania
Transfer from airport to the guest house “Our Little House”. Enjoy the whole day at your free disposal. Visit a coffee farm, some market or the village. Depending on the weekday, you may have the opportunity to visit a Massai livestock market or go to a church service. Your German-speaking travel guide will be happy to assist you. Breakfast and dinner included.

DAY 3

Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast, pick-up at the guest house and drive to Lake Manyara. The national park is framed by the steep slopes of the Rift Valley on one side and the vast dusty plains of the Massai steppe on the other. Apart from the densely wooded western bank, the park mainly consists of the Manyara Lake with its waters rich in sodium carbonate. It offers a protected habitat to elephants, giraffes, buffalos, flamingoes, gazelles and other wild animals and is especially known for its tree-climbing lions. Enjoy this nature reserve on game drives lasting for several hours. In the late afternoon, you will be taken to Kirurumu Manyara Lodge (or equivalent accommodation) to spend the night. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

DAY 4

Lake Manyara Area – Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, the tour will go on through the Crater Highlands, a very fertile area where the Iraqw people mainly cultivate wheat, maize and coffee. In the afternoon, the vast plains of the Serengeti will be reached. This is the second-largest national park in Africa with an area of approximately the size of Schleswig-Holstein. While in the southern parts, grass savanna is the typical landscape and makes up perfect hunting grounds for cheetahs and other predators, the northern and western areas of the park are dotted with hilly tree savannas. Up to one million gnus and approx. 200,000 zebras going on their annual “Great Migration” have made the Serengeti famous. Their seasonal migration must surely be counted as one of the most impressive nature spectacle on this planet. But even off this migration path, the Serengeti offers opportunities for spectacular animal sightings. Dinner and overnight stay at Kati Kati Camp (or equal accommodation) in the middle of the Serengeti. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

DAY 5

Serengeti National Park
The whole day is at your free disposal for game drives through the Serengeti. The areas to be visited will depend on the position of the migrating herds. Your travel guide will know exactly where to find the animals and will take you to the best observation spots. Optionally, you may visit the national park’s tourist center. If you make an appointment in good time, a team member of the Frankfurt Zoological Society will tell you about their work in the Serengeti. The night will be spent again at Kati Kati Camp (or equal accommodation). Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

DAY 6

Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Conservation Area
After breakfast, you will set off on more game drives through the Serengeti. In Seronera Valley, apart from gnus and zebras, lions and other big cats such as leopards and cheetahs can frequently be spotted. After lunch at a scenic picnic area, the tour goes on towards Ngorongoro Crater. On the way, you will pass by Olduvai Gorge. During the 1960s, the oldest prehistoric remains of human ancestors were found there. A small museum informs about these finds and related works (visit optional). As soon as Ngorongoro Crater is reached, you will see the giant Caldera, a paradise of wild animals. The night will be spent directly on the crater edge at Sopa Lodge, Rhino Lodge oder equal accommodation. Enjoy the unique view. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

DAY 7

Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha
Breakfast will taken at daybreak before a small road takes you down the steep and densely wooded crater walls. The crater bottom is characterized by savanna and scattered acacia forests. The amount of wild animals down there is breathtaking. All of the Big Five – lions, elephants, buffaloes, rhinos and leopards – can frequently be spotted within a few hours time. Apart from that, warthogs, gnus, zebras, gazelles and different antelope species, hippos and many more species are seen with regularity. After extensive game drives and a fabulous crater picnic, you will be taken back to the guest house “Our Little House”. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

DAY 8

Arusha – Usambara Mountains
Where the violets bloom: The Usambara rain forests are part of the most precious biodiversity areas of the world. The mountains in Tanzania’s north-east provide a home to an incredible amount of animal and plant diversity and once offered German settlers a comfortable fertile low mountain climate. From Arusha, we will take you approx. 320km to Mullers Mountain Lodge (or equal accommodation), a veritable Garden of Eden, where you will spend the night. Breakfast included (dinner will be offered on site at a charge of approx. 15$ p.p.).

DAY 9

Usambara Mountains
The area may be explored on several hiking trips including to a waterfall, into the jungle or to do bird watching. It is also possible to visit a mission station. Optionally, a local guide may be at your disposal.

DAYS 8 and 9 may alternatively be spent at Pangani beach.

DAY 10

Trip to Pangani
After breakfast, we will take you to Pangani, located at a distance of about 250km. The first part of the route is very well maintained. Later on, the tour will lead through typical African villages off the main roads so that you get to experience typical local life at close range. In Pangani, you will cross the river by ferry and will go on to Bahari Baobab Camp, where you will spend the next couple of nights. Breakfast, snack and dinner included.

DAYS 11 – 17

On the White Beach of Pangani
Enjoy spare days on a marvelous lonely beach of the Indian Ocean. A German-speaking travel guide and a vehicle (Toyota Hillux or minibus) will be at your disposal around the clock for your excursions. For example: Visit to the old German harbor towns of Pangani or Tanga, game drives in Saadani National Park, visit to a Massai village, fishing trips, snorkel trips, diving trips, catamaran sailing or a boat trip on the Pangani river. Full board included.

DAY 17

Trip to Arusha
After breakfast, you will need to say good bye to the white palm beach and return to “Our Little House”. Dinner.

DAY 18

Kwa heri Tanzania – Good bye
Transfer to the airport and flight back to Germany
